The 1963-1965 Buick Riviera was the early to mid sixties pinnacle of the brand new personal luxury category. One of the few American postwar cars to earn Milestone status from the Milestone Car Society. At it's debut at the Paris Auto Show, Sergio Pninfarina, the renowned Italian car designer, declared it "one of the most beautiful American cars ever built". Jaguar founder and designer Sir William Lyons said it was GM designer Bill Mitchell's "best ever car design".
Best of the first generation Riviera was the 1965 model. With it's distinctive one-year-only clamshell style concealed headlamps, it provided true concept-type show car styling to a mass produced car.
Powered by Buick's famous "Wildcat 465" V-8, this engine displaces 425 cubic inches, and produces an astounding 465 lb/ft of torque. This engine option was actually more rare than the dual quad GS engine (approx. 2040 vs 3800 built). Combined with the Buick exclusive Super Turbine 400 automatic transmission, it provides as smooth and powerful ride as you'll ever experience.
This stunning example is a fresh trade-in out of a retiree's personal collection from dry, sunny southern California, and shows only 37,218 loving miles on the odometer. One high-gloss repaint in it's correct Arctic White. Excellent original black simulated leather bucket seat interior. Pristine wood and chrome trim, as well as a wrinkle-free headliner all add to the classy, luxurious feel the designers intended.
